What this role is really testing
The project
CPG Retail Sales Performance Dashboard & Insight Brief
A mock sales analyst deliverable built around a public CPG retail dataset, combining an Excel or Google Sheets dashboard that tracks category performance, market share trends, and growth opportunities with a one-page written insight brief summarizing findings for a fictional sales leadership meeting. This mirrors exactly what the role describes: gathering data, building monitoring tools, and proactively communicating findings to a team.
- Download a free public CPG retail sales dataset (the Nielsen or IRI sample datasets shared on Kaggle work well, or fabricate a clean 50-row table with columns for Product SKU, Retailer, Region, Weekly Units Sold, Revenue, and Promotion Flag across 8–10 weeks). Load it into Google Sheets or Excel, build a pivot table summarizing total revenue and units by retailer and by region, add a simple line chart showing weekly revenue trend, and use conditional formatting to flag any week-over-week decline greater than 10% in red so a reader can spot risk instantly.
- Add a second sheet titled 'Opportunity Analysis' that calculates each retailer's share of total revenue (a simple percentage column), ranks them, and identifies the top underperforming region, defined as a region whose share of units sold is lower than its share of store count or population (use rough proxy numbers you define). Write two to three short bullet-point observations directly in the sheet, labeled 'Key Findings,' so the insight lives next to the data rather than only in a separate document.
- Create a one-page 'Sales Leadership Brief' as a Google Doc or a clean second tab formatted for printing. Structure it with four sections that mirror a real CPG business review: Situation (what the data covers and the time period), Performance Highlights (your top two positive trends with specific numbers), Risks & Watch Areas (the flagged declines or underperforming regions), and Recommended Next Steps (two concrete actions a sales rep could take, such as prioritizing a promotional push in the lagging region or requesting a buyer meeting at the underperforming retailer). Keep the language concise and executive-facing, as if it will be read by a VP in under two minutes.

Questions
Do I need to know how to code?
No. For roles like this one, Provieo builds the project as a live case-study page: slides, tables and findings you fill in. You bring the thinking.
Where did this project come from?
Provieo read the The Clorox Company posting and generated it on 2026-10-16. If you paste the same posting yourself you may get a different project, so two applicants don't show up with the same one.
Is Provieo connected to The Clorox Company?
No. This is an independent project idea based on a public posting. It does not guarantee an interview.
