The project

Inventory Health Dashboard & Reorder Recommendation Memo

A Google Sheets dashboard built on a realistic mock retail inventory dataset that flags overstock, understock, and reorder needs using formulas and conditional formatting, paired with a one-page executive memo summarizing findings and recommending action. This maps directly to the role because it shows exactly what an Inventory Analyst does daily: turn raw stock data into financial insight and communicate it clearly to leadership.

  1. Build a mock inventory dataset in Google Sheets with 20–30 SKUs across 4–5 product categories. Include columns for Product Name, Category, Units on Hand, Weekly Sales Velocity, Reorder Point (Units on Hand ÷ Weekly Velocity to get weeks of supply), Unit Cost, and Total Inventory Value (Units on Hand × Unit Cost). Populate the data with realistic variation, some items nearly stocked out, some heavily overstocked, some healthy, so your analysis has something meaningful to surface.
  2. Add three analytical layers: (1) a 'Weeks of Supply' column calculated from your data, (2) a 'Status' column using an IF/AND formula that labels each SKU as Overstock (>8 weeks), Healthy (3–8 weeks), or At Risk (<3 weeks), and (3) conditional formatting that color-codes rows red, yellow, and green by status. Then add a summary section at the top of the sheet with four KPI cells: Total SKUs, % At Risk, % Overstock, and Total Value Tied Up in Overstock, the exact metrics a buyer or analyst would present to leadership.
  3. Write a one-page Google Doc executive memo addressed to a fictional 'Merchandise Planning Director.' Open with a two-sentence situation summary, include a table pulling your three most critical At Risk SKUs with their weeks of supply and estimated lost-sales risk if they stock out, then list two or three specific, quantified recommendations (e.g., 'Expedite reorder for SKU #14, 1.2 weeks of supply remaining at current velocity'). Close with a one-sentence note on the financial opportunity from liquidating the top overstock item. Link the live Sheet inside the memo so a recruiter can open both artifacts from one URL.

Questions

Do I need to know how to code?

No. For roles like this one, Provieo builds the project as a live case-study page: slides, tables and findings you fill in. You bring the thinking.

Where did this project come from?

Provieo read the Target posting and generated it on 2026-10-16. If you paste the same posting yourself you may get a different project, so two applicants don't show up with the same one.

Is Provieo connected to Target?

No. This is an independent project idea based on a public posting. It does not guarantee an interview.
