What this role is really testing
The project
Supplier Delivery Performance Root Cause Analysis
A one-page professional analysis memo that takes a realistic, self-created dataset of supplier on-time delivery records, identifies the top failure patterns using a structured root cause method, and proposes three ranked corrective actions with expected impact. This maps directly to the role because it demonstrates exactly what the team does daily: spotting process breakdowns in a supply chain, reasoning through causes, and communicating fixes to stakeholders.
- Create a simple spreadsheet (12–15 rows) simulating three months of supplier delivery data with columns for Supplier Name, Part Category, Promised Delivery Date, Actual Delivery Date, Days Late, and Region. Populate it with realistic variation, some suppliers consistently late, one region underperforming, one part category always delayed, so the data tells a story worth analyzing.
- Analyze the data manually or with basic spreadsheet formulas to calculate on-time delivery rate by supplier and category, then build a fishbone (Ishikawa) diagram on a single slide or page that maps the top root cause you identified to its contributing factors across the categories of Supplier, Process, Transportation, and Communication.
- Write a one-page memo addressed to a fictional Supply Chain Manager that states the problem with one supporting metric, presents the fishbone finding in plain language, and lists three corrective actions ranked by ease-of-implementation versus expected impact, formatted as a simple 2-column table. Export the memo and fishbone diagram together as a single clean PDF.

Questions
Do I need to know how to code?
No. For roles like this one, Provieo builds the project as a live case-study page: slides, tables and findings you fill in. You bring the thinking.
Where did this project come from?
Provieo read the Caterpillar posting and generated it on 2026-10-16. If you paste the same posting yourself you may get a different project, so two applicants don't show up with the same one.
Is Provieo connected to Caterpillar?
No. This is an independent project idea based on a public posting. It does not guarantee an interview.
