The project

Corporate Cost Efficiency Mini-Dashboard

A single-page Excel or Google Sheets dashboard that ingests a publicly available corporate income statement (e.g., State Street's own 10-K or any S&P 500 firm), calculates key efficiency ratios over five years, and surfaces a written insight memo explaining what the trends mean for the business. This maps directly to the role because it replicates the exact intern workflow: pull real financial data, apply analytical tools, visualize trends, and communicate a business recommendation to a non-technical stakeholder.

  1. Download five years of income statement data for a publicly traded financial services firm (State Street's investor relations page or SEC EDGAR both provide free Excel exports of 10-K filings). Pull at minimum: total revenue, non-interest expense, net income, and headcount if available. Add a clean 'Raw Data' tab and label every row with its source and year so a recruiter can verify it instantly.
  2. Build a second 'Analysis' tab with three calculated metrics for each year: Efficiency Ratio (non-interest expense divided by net revenue, the single most-watched operational KPI in banking), Net Profit Margin, and Year-over-Year Revenue Growth. Then create three simple line or bar charts on a third 'Dashboard' tab, one per metric, with a consistent color scheme, labeled axes, and a title that states the company and date range. Add one conditional-formatting cell that flags any year where the efficiency ratio exceeded 70%, which is the industry watch threshold.
  3. Write a 150-word 'Key Findings' text box directly inside the dashboard tab (not a separate document) structured as: one sentence on the trend, one sentence on a likely business driver, and one sentence on what a finance team should investigate next. This mirrors the intern deliverable of turning data into a stakeholder-ready recommendation, and it is the first thing a recruiter will read when they open the file.

Questions

Do I need to know how to code?

No. For roles like this one, Provieo builds the project as a live case-study page: slides, tables and findings you fill in. You bring the thinking.

Where did this project come from?

Provieo read the State Street posting and generated it on 2026-10-28. If you paste the same posting yourself you may get a different project, so two applicants don't show up with the same one.

Is Provieo connected to State Street?

No. This is an independent project idea based on a public posting. It does not guarantee an interview.
