What this role is really testing
The project
Mini Internal Audit: Risk & Control Assessment for a Fictional Retail Bank Branch
A one-page audit workpaper that walks through a fictitious bank branch's cash-handling process, identifies key risks, evaluates the controls in place, and flags two control gaps with actionable recommendations. This maps directly to the role because it demonstrates exactly what Internal Audit analysts do daily, scoping a process, thinking critically about what could go wrong, and communicating findings clearly to management.
- Design a one-page 'Process Overview' section: write a short narrative (3–5 sentences) describing a simple end-to-end process, for example, a bank teller receiving, counting, and reconciling cash at end of day, then draw a simple swimlane-style flowchart in PowerPoint, Word, or Google Slides showing each step and who is responsible for it (teller, supervisor, back office). Label any step where money or data changes hands as a 'key control point.'
- Build a Risk and Control Matrix as a table with five columns, Process Step, Risk (what could go wrong), Likelihood (High/Medium/Low), Existing Control (what currently prevents it), and Control Rating (Effective / Needs Improvement / Missing). Populate at least six rows covering realistic risks such as teller error, theft, reconciliation failure, and segregation-of-duties gaps. For two of the rows, deliberately rate the control as 'Needs Improvement' or 'Missing' to set up your findings.
- Write a one-page 'Audit Findings and Recommendations' memo addressed to a fictional Branch Manager. Use a professional memo format with a header, an executive summary sentence, then two numbered findings, each with a 'Condition' (what you observed), 'Risk' (why it matters in dollar or reputational terms), and 'Recommendation' (a specific, actionable fix with a suggested owner and 30-day deadline). Keep the tone objective and constructive, mirroring real audit report language. Export the full package, flowchart, matrix, and memo, as a single PDF so a recruiter can open one file and see all three components in under a minute.

Questions
Do I need to know how to code?
No. For roles like this one, Provieo builds the project as a live case-study page: slides, tables and findings you fill in. You bring the thinking.
Where did this project come from?
Provieo read the Citi posting and generated it on 2026-10-16. If you paste the same posting yourself you may get a different project, so two applicants don't show up with the same one.
Is Provieo connected to Citi?
No. This is an independent project idea based on a public posting. It does not guarantee an interview.
