Tax Intern - Transaction Economics Group: a project built for this posting
Interns in EY's Transaction Economics Group build financial models that assess how deals such as acquisitions, debt issuances, and reorganizations are structured and taxed. They research market trends and help prepare reports and presentations for clients and tax authorities across the stages of a transaction. The posting lists Boston and New York.

What this role is really testing
The project
M&A Deal Structure Analyzer: Excel Model + One-Page Client Memo
A two-part deliverable consisting of an Excel workbook that models the economic impact of two competing acquisition structures (asset purchase vs. stock purchase) for a hypothetical target company, paired with a one-page Word memo summarizing the findings for a non-technical client stakeholder. This maps directly to TEG's core work of evaluating deal structures, building financial models, and communicating results to clients and tax authorities.
- In Excel, build a side-by-side model for a hypothetical $50M acquisition: set up input assumptions (purchase price, tax rate, depreciation schedule, debt financing mix) and calculate after-tax cash flows, NPV, and effective cost basis for both an asset purchase and a stock purchase structure, using named ranges and clearly labeled sections so a reviewer can follow the logic without guidance.
- Add a summary dashboard tab with a simple bar or column chart comparing the NPV and 5-year cumulative after-tax cash flow of each structure, and include a brief cell-level commentary box explaining which structure is more tax-efficient under the stated assumptions and why, mirroring the analytical narrative EY analysts are expected to produce.
- Write a one-page Word memo addressed to a fictional CFO client that opens with a one-sentence recommendation, presents the key numbers from your model in a clean table, explains the tax treatment difference between the two structures in plain language, and closes with two deal considerations (e.g., liability exposure, seller preference) that could shift the recommendation, formatted with EY-style headings and professional tone.

Questions
Do I need to know how to code?
No. For roles like this one, Provieo builds the project as a live case-study page: slides, tables and findings you fill in. You bring the thinking.
Where did this project come from?
Provieo read the EY posting and generated it on 2026-10-16. If you paste the same posting yourself you may get a different project, so two applicants don't show up with the same one.
Is Provieo connected to EY?
No. This is an independent project idea based on a public posting. It does not guarantee an interview.
