The project

Public Company Audit Risk Dashboard in Excel

A structured Excel workbook that pulls a real public company's income statement and balance sheet data to flag anomalies, compute key audit-relevant ratios, and surface risk areas through conditional formatting and charts, mirroring exactly the kind of data-driven audit analysis KPMG describes. This demonstrates Excel fluency, analytical judgment, and the ability to translate financial data into clear, documented findings the way an auditor would.

  1. Pull two to three years of income statement and balance sheet data for any SEC-filing public company from their investor relations page (copy from the 10-K into Excel). Build a clean, labeled data tab with consistent formatting, this is your 'client data' layer, kept separate from analysis, just as audit workpaper standards require.
  2. Create an Analysis tab that calculates key audit-risk ratios across all years: current ratio, debt-to-equity, gross margin %, revenue growth %, days sales outstanding, and accounts receivable as a percent of revenue. Add a year-over-year variance column and use conditional formatting (red/yellow/green) to automatically flag any metric that moved more than 10% or crossed a common risk threshold, simulating the analytical procedures an auditor runs to identify where misstatement risk is highest.
  3. Add a one-tab 'Audit Risk Summary' that contains a clustered bar or line chart of the three most volatile metrics, a plain-English 'Risk Observations' text box (three to five bullet points explaining what the numbers suggest about the client's financial health and where you would focus audit testing), and a simple risk matrix table rating five account areas, revenue, receivables, inventory, debt, expenses, as Low / Medium / High based on your ratio findings.

Questions

Do I need to know how to code?

No. For roles like this one, Provieo builds the project as a live case-study page: slides, tables and findings you fill in. You bring the thinking.

Where did this project come from?

Provieo read the KPMG posting and generated it on 2026-10-22. If you paste the same posting yourself you may get a different project, so two applicants don't show up with the same one.

Is Provieo connected to KPMG?

No. This is an independent project idea based on a public posting. It does not guarantee an interview.
